With that in mind, we are pleased to present the safest way to trick or treat this year - Boo at the Zoo!  Lincoln Children's Zoo is prepared to offer a socially distant, trick or treating experience for the community. Our plan, approved by the Lancaster County Health Department, may look a bit different than it has in previous years, but we still intend to bring all the merry-not-scary fun this year! Please read below to find out how we will ensure the safety and health of everyone at the event:

Mask Specifications

All guests ages 5 and older are required to wear a cloth face mask at all times, while attending Boo at the Zoo. Guests will not be admitted without a proper face covering.

Halloween costume masks are not a suitable replacement for a cloth face mask. A cloth mask must be worn under any costume mask. At this time, based on guidance from health authorities, neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas and face coverings containing valves, mesh material or holes of any kind are not acceptable face coverings.

If you arrive at the event without a proper mask, you will be offered a disposable option. If you are unable to wear a cloth face covering, a medical grade face shield is an acceptable alternative.

If neither a mask nor face shield can be worn due to a medical issue, please email the Zoo at to learn about event alternatives.

Face covering guidelines (disposable or reusable) must:

  • Be made with at least 2 layers of breathable material
  • Fully cover the nose and mouth and secure under the chin
  • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
  • Be secured with ties or loops and allow the wearer to remain hands-free
  • Must be worn under all costume masks
