Camp Facts & Cancellation Policy
Check-In and Check-Out Times
Campers should be checked in and checked out within the allotted time. If other check-in or check-out times are needed, arrangements must be made in advance.
- Photo identification is required each day for the adult picking up the camper
- Check-In times are as follows: 8:10 - 8:25 a.m.
- Check-Out begins as follows: 4:30 p.m.
- Check-In and Check-Out is located at the entrance of the Zoo.
Camp is for campers
Only Zoo staff and registered volunteers may enter the drop-off area. Guardians must remain outside the check-in area at all times.
What if my camper (or I) has separation anxiety?
If your camper has separation anxiety the best thing you can do for them is give them a big hug and leave. Camp is such a fun place and campers stay so busy that few ever find the time to focus on missing home. But if they do, rest assured that our staff will spend the extra time needed to help them focus on the fun again. Instructors are specially trained to help campers make friends, find fun activities and try new things. The first day of camp is packed with fun and easy get-to-know you games that introduce, include, and connect campers from the very beginning. As guardians, you can do a lot to prevent or curb homesickness. First, fully inform your camper about camp so they know what to expect. Share ideas with your camper about what to do if he/she feels lonely. (Such as; find a friend, get involved in something fun or talk to an instructor). Let your child know that missing home is normal, and ask him/her what they might do to get through it. Brainstorming ahead of time equips him/her with tools to cope and adjust. Let your child know that it is completely normal to miss home at first, but by getting involved, they will be able to focus on the friends and fun they are having at camp. Work to support your child by discussing how cool it is that he/she is independent enough to go to camp. Focus on the accomplishments and fun that will be experienced, NOT about how much you will miss them. (Campers need to know that they are not hurting you and are free to experience camp independently.) Explain how good it will feel afterward and what incredible stories they will have to tell. Campers who experience homesickness usually end up liking camp so much that they don’t want to leave at the end of the week.
- Please provide a lunch for each full day camp
- Campers will be inside and outside, please dress appropriately and/or in layers
- It is recommended to bring a small backpack to carry coats, sweatshirts, etc.
- It is strongly recommended campers carry a reusable water bottle
- Campers must wear closed-toed shoes
- The Zoo provides one snack each day
- If your child has special dietary requirements, please provide snacks

Off-Season Camp Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy
Topic and date changes for Zoo Camps must be made in writing by emailing email@example.com or by stopping by the Zoo at least seven days prior to the first day of camp. A $25 change fee per camper will be charged for all rescheduling.
Due to the high demand for camp spaces, all sales are considered final. Guests who provide a written notice of cancellation to firstname.lastname@example.org or stop by the Zoo offices at least seven days prior to the first day of camp. will receive a full refund.
Lincoln Children's Zoo reserves the right to cancel any program due to minimum enrollment, inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances, in which case a full refund will be issued. Cancellations are official upon receipt of confirmation from Lincoln Children's Zoo.
Zoo Camp utilizes a 5 step behavior policy. The following steps will be used to address any camper behavioral issues:
Verbal Reminder: Campers will be asked to stop the disruptive behavior.
Environmental Change: Campers will be removed from the area and may be asked to sit out one activity.
Behavior Report: A written account of the disruptive behavior will be given to the guardian at pick-up.
Send Home: A camper will be sent home if the formally addressed behavior is repeated. They will be allowed to return the next day.
Removal from Camp: The camper will not be permitted to return to camp for the 2017 season. No refund will be issued. Any other camps that the camper is registered for will be forfeited with no refund.
Campers are expected to follow directions, be respectful and responsible for their own behavior. Guardians will be contacted if a camper is unable to follow these expectations. If needed, guardians will receive a written notification of their camper’s behavior. If a camper’s behavior issue has not been resolved the next day, an adult will be called to pick up their child from camp. If the camper continues to be disruptive or inappropriate, demonstrates physical aggression or presents a flight risk, the camper will be immediately dismissed from camp for the remainder of the summer without a refund.
If your camper requires assistance during camp, a camp aid may attend camp with the camper. Families are responsible for hiring and paying for a camp aid. Camp aids must have completed ninth grade, be at least four years older than the child he/she is assisting and may not be a family member. Assistants 19 and older will be subject to a background check.
Disruptive Behaviors and Following Instructions
For the safety of our campers, staff and assistants, all campers must be able to follow verbal instructions. If a camper repeatedly disobeys instructions and puts themselves or others in danger they will be asked to leave camp. If a camper’s behavior distracts from the overall program and affects the quality of other camper’s experiences, then disruptive campers will be asked to leave camp.
Guardians will be alerted via a written behavior report if their camper’s behavior has become disruptive. It is the job of the guardian to address this behavior before the next day of camp. If disruptive behaviors continue, then a camper will be removed from camp and no refund will be issued.
Examples of Disruptive Behavior
Talking while others are talking
Repeatedly running through the Zoo when asked to walk
Refusing to participate in activities
Entering off-limits areas
Bullying or aggravating fellow campers
Using hurtful language
Excluding other campers from activities
Disruptive behaviors are classified at the discretion of the Zoo Education Team. Ultimately a behavior will be deemed disruptive if it negatively affects the experience of other camp participants.
The following will result in immediate dismissal from camp without refund:
Physical violence: hitting, kicking, punching or biting
Inappropriate language: cursing, name calling, derogatory remarks or hate speech will not be tolerated
