Standing Day Gecko
Phelsuma standingi
They are native to the island of Madagascar and southeast Africa. Their habitat is the thorn forest of the dry southwest and they are insectivore and carnivore. These are one of the largest geckos in Madagascar and can attain a length of 8-10 inches. They are capable of climbing up smooth vertical surfaces and stick to ceilings because of their toes. The toes have scales on the undersurface of their feet that have widened out cushions. Small microscopical bristles are located on these cushions which are the reason they are able to climb and stick. The skin on the gecko can be easily damaged and too much handling can cause stress and damage the skin.
The day gecko is primarily a desert species that doesn't live well in an always humid surrounding. They like sun, heat and drought. The size of the gecko eggs are the size of two eggs attached to each other. The females hold the egg in their hind legs until they become hard and the you has a yellowish-green head. Incubation is about 70 days.
