Eyed Skink

 

Chalcides ocellatus

 

The eyed skink originated in southern European countries, North Africa into southwestern Asia with most imported specimens arriving from Egypt where the species seems to be very common.  ItÂ's at home in scrublands, grassy slopes, and dry sandy arid areas.

 

They can achieve a total length of 6 to 12 inches.  This species has a small pointed head, a thick neck and a stout cylindrical body supported by short legs with 5-toed feet.  Their color is variable and has glossy scales that are grey or light brown with black and it has white spots.

 

Females are ovoviviparous giving birth to 3-11 young at a time.
