About

Why Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo! Becoming a volunteer makes a difference in your community. Every year hundreds of volunteers put in approximately 10,000 hours supporting staff and animals at the zoo. Volunteers help approximately 150,000 annual visitors experience firsthand the natural world around them. The zoo is a longstanding Lincoln attraction that has been able to provide a memorable visit for people of all ages, due in great part to the volunteers who support it. If you enjoy nature, hearing the laughter of children and seeing wonder in their eyes, become a volunteer at the zoo. There’s always something fun to do at the zoo!

Volunteers work in every department of the zoo including animal care, education, facilities and more. Volunteering is a serious commitment; teen volunteer positions are typically for the summer or fall, while adult volunteers serve for at least a year – some volunteers have been with us for a decade or more!
