VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT THE ZOO
Lincoln Children’s Zoo is a non-profit facility that receives no tax money for operating so depends entirely on the sale of memberships, admissions, rentals, donations, etc. Therefore, the zoo appreciates those that volunteer their services.
Some of the areas of opportunity for adult volunteers are:
Animal Department
Horticulture Department
Facilities/Maintenance Department
Education Department
Opportunities are available for a variety of activities. The zoo is always in need of assistance with making diets for the animals. This would include chopping, dicing, and cutting up fruits and vegetables. The animals are here all year round and the keepers could certainly use your assistance. And, our zoo animals will enjoy their dinner!!
The education department is always in need of summer class teachers and assistants and our new Bug exhibit needs volunteers. The horticulture area could use assistance in planting, weeding, watering, etc.
The Butterfly Pavilion is open from the first of June until mid-September. During that time, someone must be in the facility during the zoo’s open hours. If you would like to sit among the plants, flowers and butterflies, then this is the place for you!!
How about engineering the train and/or serving as train conductor? Conductors must be over the age of 16 and engineers must have a valid drivers license and be over the age of 21. Training is required and offered several times prior to the zoo's open season.
Of course, there are many other areas that are a great deal of fun. How about strolling through the zoo and answering questions and getting acquainted with not only the zoo animals but also the zoo visitors.
There’s a volunteer opportunity in the goat area during the months of April and May and again in September and October. The Critter Encounter Area needs YOU during those same months.
And, there’s more!!! Just stop in at the zoo office anytime during regular office hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or call, 402-475-6741. We’d love to chat!!
